His Excellency Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, has been elected Chairman of the Commonwealth Foundation Grants Committee.
The Commonwealth Foundation Grants Committee plays a vital role in fostering participatory governance across the Commonwealth. It oversees the allocation and management of grants to civil society organizations (CSOs) to support initiatives that empower citizens to engage in decision-making processes and advance sustainable development goals (SDGs).
As Chairman, Dr. Manyeh will lead a committee composed of representatives from Commonwealth member states and civil society experts. Together, they will ensure that grant funding is allocated equitably and effectively to projects promoting inclusion, transparency, and accountability. Particular emphasis will be placed on initiatives involving marginalized groups such as women, youth, and people with disabilities.
The Commonwealth Grants Committee will evaluate proposals based on innovation, alignment with the Foundation’s goals, and potential long-term impact. Organizations seeking funding must demonstrate the relevance, feasibility, and sustainability of their projects.
Dr. Manyeh’s election is a reflection of Sierra Leone’s growing prominence in international governance and development, under the leadership of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Dr. Manyeh’s extensive experience in diplomacy and governance positions him well for this added responsibility. With his guidance, the Commonwealth Foundation Grants Committee will continue to empower civil society and work to strengthen participatory governance throughout the Commonwealth.
