London, UK
Saturday, 18th October, 2025.
Eleven outstanding young Sierra Leoneans, recipients of the 2025 Chevening Scholarships, today joined other exceptional scholars from across the globe at London’s ExCeL Centre for the *Chevening Orientation 2025*, a flagship event designed to inspire leadership, foster connections, and prepare scholars for a productive year of study in the United Kingdom.
Organised by the Chevening Secretariat under the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (*FCDO*), the orientation brought together emerging leaders from over 160 countries and territories. Through keynote addresses, interactive discussions, and networking sessions, participants were encouraged to reflect on how they can use their academic experience to drive development in their respective countries.
The eleven Sierra Leonean scholars represent a cross-section of professional disciplines and embody *the spirit of Chevening:* leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to building a better future. Upon completion of their studies, they are expected to return home with enhanced skills, knowledge, and global perspectives to contribute meaningfully to Sierra Leone’s national development agenda.

The Chevening Scholarship programme which started in 1983 remains one of the UK’s most prestigious international programmes, offering future leaders the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies while strengthening the bonds of friendship and co-operation between the United Kingdom and partner nations such as Sierra Leone. Over the years, many deserving Sierra Leoneans have benefited from this reputable international initiative.
