London, UK. May 21st 2025.
At the just concluded 2025 Education World Forum (EWF) in London, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, and Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Mr. Conrad Sackey, engaged in high-level discussions aimed at shaping the future of global education.
Participating in a pivotal panel discussion on aligning education and training with socio-economic needs, Minister Wurie highlighted the necessity of skills-based, practical education for national development. She drew on examples from Sierra Leone’s ongoing reforms, advocating for closer collaboration between educators, policymakers, and industry leaders. “Educators must collaborate with policymakers, innovators, and the employment sector,” she stated, underlining the importance of relevance in educational programs.

During the course of the insightful gathering, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie formalised a groundbreaking partnership with *Agilix Labs, Inc*.—a prominent educational technology outfit based in the United States—by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch *the Future Learning Institute (FLI)*. This innovative initiative aims to transform *vocational and higher education* in Sierra Leone, integrating *Artificial Intelligence* into the country’s educational system.
Meanwhile, Minister Sackey actively took part in multiple sessions throughout the four-day Forum, contributing Sierra Leone’s voice to conversations about equity, resilience, and innovation in education systems globally.
Held under the theme “From Stability to Growth: Building Stronger, Bolder, Better Education Together”, the 2025 EWF brought together ministers and global education stakeholders to explore inclusive and responsive education frameworks. Since its inception in 2002 as “Moving Young Minds,” the Forum has grown to become the world’s largest annual gathering of education ministers, backed by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Department for Education, British Council, and others.
Sierra Leone’s active engagement at this year’s Forum underscores its determination to integrate innovation, inclusivity, and strategic partnerships in the transformation of its national education landscape, as envisioned by His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the President of the republic of Sierra Leone.
