The President of the Krio Descendants Union (KDU–London), Mr. David Dravie-John, and Vice President, Mrs. Doreen Sandy, on Thursday 26 February 2026 paid a courtesy visit to Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, and Deputy High Commissioner Mrs. Yvonne King Odigboh at the Chancery Building, 41 Eagle Street, Holborn, London.

The visit forms part of the Union’s ongoing engagements as it prepares to mark its 15th anniversary in the United Kingdom. Discussions at the chancery centred on the entity’s  charitable initiatives and its continued commitment to supporting development efforts in Sierra Leone.

KDU–London, a UK-registered company and charity organisation, has over the years complemented national efforts in Sierra Leone through community-driven programmes. The Union is currently refurbishing the York Health Centre in the Western Area Peninsula and continues its longstanding support to St. George’s Old People’s Home in Grafton, occasionally providing food, clothing, and basic medication to residents.

To commemorate its 15th anniversary, the Union has outlined a series of events combining prayer, fundraising, and cultural celebration. The first major function is scheduled for 25 April 2026 at the Jesse Duffett Tenant Hall, Wyndham Road, SE6 0UB, from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

On 25 July 2026, celebrations will continue with “Ambas Geda,” a vibrant festival showcasing cultural heritage, folk arts, traditional dress and fashion, singing, dancing, and drumming. This event will take place at the Garden of Lewisham, Eltham Road, SE12 8ES, from 12 noon to 10:00 p.m. The final leg of the anniversary activities will return to the Jesse Duffett Tenant Hall with a Special Social Evening on the 28 November 2026.

Speaking during a brief interview, President David Dravie-John expressed confidence that the anniversary events will not only mark a landmark celebration of the Union’s achievements over the past 15 years, but also strengthen support for its charitable mission in Sierra Leone.
