Sierra Leone’s Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mrs. Yvonne King Odigboh, has paid tribute to the late Alhajie Sulaiman Jalloh, describing him as a “beloved community hero” and “a God-fearing Sierra Leonean who served Almighty God with devotion and his people with dedication.”

Speaking to relatives, worshippers and sympathisers following today’s Friday Jumma prayers at the BECA Masjid in New Cross, Mrs. King Odigboh conveyed condolences on behalf of Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, and the entire Mission.

She urged community members to follow the late Alhajie Sulaiman’s example of selfless service and prayed for God to have mercy upon his soul, accept him into Paradise and grant strength and consolation to his family.

Mrs. King Odigboh also called on worshippers to pray for one another, for their countries of origin, their country of residence, and for peace and tranquillity to reign throughout the world.

Recalling the opening of the BECA Masjid, she noted that the High Commission had been present to share the joy and bliss of the occasion with worshippers and well-wishers, assuring the congregation that the Mission would continue to stand with and support the community.

The High Commission delegation, which included Information Attaché Abdulai M. Braima, was warmly welcomed by the officiating Imam, Alhajie Mohamed Barrie, who led the congregation in prayers for the Mission and for continued peace and progress in Sierra Leone.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Shuaib Jalloh, cousin of the deceased, expressed appreciation for the visit and thanked the delegation for its thoughtful engagement. In a deeply emotional tribute, he described Alhajie Sulaiman as “a true believer and a community giant” who would be dearly missed not only by his family, but by the wider community.

Among the dignitaries present was Alhajie Mohamed Jalloh, SLPP UK&I Regional Chairman and former President of the UK&I Fulla Progressive Union, who joined the community in expressing his condolences and offering prayers for the deceased.

Originally from Lokomasama in Port Loko District, Alhajie Sulaiman Jalloh was a  recognised community stakeholder in Southwark and within the wider Sierra Leonean community in London. He passed away on Monday, 21st September 2026, after a brief illness.

A long-serving resident of South East London, he never forgot his Sierra Leonean roots and remained deeply committed to serving his people both in the United Kingdom and back home in Sierra Leone.

His passing represents the loss of a respected community servant whose life was marked by faith, generosity and dedication to others.

The congregation was united in prayer, asking Almighty Allah to have mercy upon his soul, forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
