His Excellency Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been named “Ambassador for Peace” by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) an international body dedicated to global peace building through interfaith dialogue, strengthening of family values and humanitarian relief work.
The occasion which took place on Friday 29 April 2022, in the Universal Peace Federation House, 43 Lancaster Gate, London, was part of a special ceremony which attracted a host of dignitaries from across the academic, business and political spectrums.
Nigeria’s Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry, Hon. Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, who served as the Guest of Honour during the event, spoke eloquently on global peace and development, while also stressing the growing need for an integrated African economic platform as the world walks away from Covid-19 and its many different challenges.
On receiving the award, Dr. Manyeh expressed gratitude to the organisers of the event and pointedly observed that “events like this go a long way to show that Sierra Leone has turned the corner from the darker days of our challenging past to a hopeful and brighter phase”. The soft-spoken diplomat went on to pay tribute to “the exemplary strides of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, for setting the national stage and accelerating the pace for peace”.
In the words of the awarding body, the UPF, “Ambassadors for Peace” are people whose lives “exemplify the ideals of living for the sake of others and who dedicate themselves to practices which promote universal moral values, strong family ties, inter-religious cooperation, international harmony and the establishment of a culture of peace”.
