The Sierra Leone High Commission joined members of the Sierra Leonean and wider diaspora community in London today 29 August 2026 for the *Count Down Community Sports Day*, an energetic celebration of sport, culture, friendship and community spirit at Southwark Park Sports & Athletics Centre.
Organised by the *Count Down Community*, the family event brought together Sierra Leoneans and participants from across the diaspora for an exciting day of sporting competition, entertainment and fellowship. Alumni associations, community organisations, charities, businesses, social groups and families took part in activities promoting participation, healthy living and stronger community ties.
The strong presence of Sierra Leonean organisations and community groups highlighted the vibrancy, diversity and organisational strength of the Sierra Leonean diaspora in the United Kingdom.
The High Commission’s participation reflects the importance it attaches to sustained diaspora engagement and support for initiatives that promote unity, wellbeing and community participation. The Sports Day also provided an opportunity for different generations to interact, strengthen relationships and celebrate a shared sense of identity and belonging.
Beyond the competition on the track, the event demonstrated the power of sport and culture to bring people together. Through athletics, music, food and shared cultural experiences, participants celebrated the bonds connecting Sierra Leoneans while strengthening friendships with the wider communities in which they live.
Speaking on behalf of the Sierra Leone High Commission, the Information Attaché commended the organisers, participating associations, volunteers and supporters for bringing together such a broad cross-section of the community.

The coming together of Sierra Leoneans of different generations, alongside the wider African diaspora, demonstrates the strength of our community in the United Kingdom. The Information Attaché added that the enthusiasm and togetherness displayed throughout the day reflected a vibrant and engaged diaspora committed to maintaining strong community ties while contributing positively to the wider British society.
